Saturday at Forget Me Not

Saturday we decided to take hot dogs and other things for supper and headed out for Forget-Me-Not Pond (or was it lake?). It was a fabulous outing southwest of the city, but only about 45 minutes from our house. On the way we saw lots of signs "Cattle at Large." Then we saw the brave bovine--no regard for oncoming traffic!

Our kids started asking if there was a McDonald's around.

Everyone was hungry when we arrived at the "campsite." Matt and his helper got the fire going in the firepit,
and we started roasting hotdogs immediately.

After supper:

Rock-throwing

Daddy and his baby girl

The jay that stole a half-eaten hotdog out of a bun on our table: he hoped around on the ground and flew up in the trees, scoping out the situation. As soon as we turned out backs, the little theif swooped in, grabbed the hotdog, and flew off to a nearby tree. This seems to happen to us repeatedly--animals taking off with half-eatens--but continues to surprise and entertain us.

Lounging baby

Everyone had to climb this tree.

(I love this shot, but realize how badly I need some editing software. . .one day I'll get around to it. Then we'll be able to see his eyes.)

Trying it out

Woooooo. That went far.

And for dessert. . .Roasted marshmallows

On the way back to the van, we found a great bridge and rocks. Very fun for climbing!

We stayed for 3+ hours here with nothing but roasting supper, outdoors, and a pond to entertain us. The boys were begging to go back after church on Sunday. Places like this are abundant here. We just have to explore more!
