A Few Things to do with Pattern Blocks

Here are a couple of "creations" by Son #1. The boys love playing with these pattern blocks (they go with our math lessons).

This is a Sumo wrestler with rocket boots and jet pack. I was cracking up over this one!

Making Ornaments

We find some of the best projects at Costco.


Christmas ornaments for our friends.

Everybody got 6 ornaments to paint and decorate. These are a 2-year-old's creations.

This kept us busy for a couple of days. It's such fun to make presents for people. The kids get involved and enjoy thinking of others.

Kimonos and Haiku

We just studied Japan in our history. The boys designed their own kimonos.

And wrote haiku (This was a fun exercise and a simple way for kids to start writing poetry. It's not too long or complicated.) The boys each chose two seasons (one chose Spring and Winter; other chose Fall and Summer) and we set to work. I'm hoping to have them each write on the other's seasons soon. Here are two of my favorites:

Spring by a 6-year-old

Warm sunshine, snow melts

Turning to water, feeding

First blooms of flowers.

Summer by a 5-year-old

Cold water moving

Pushing feet in the stream

Sticks pass by slowly.

They didn't just churn these out; it took lots of questions and answers, but the thoughts, ideas, and phrases are their own.

Boys and Pattern Blocks

The boys got out their math pattern blocks and decided to make transformers. Since the good guys (Autobots) have Dinobots to help them, the boys thought they should come up with "helpers" for the Decepticons (the bad guys). Here's what they made:

Invent a Sandwich Day

Did you ever wonder what was the most efficient way to eat a pb sandwich and Cheetos?





In case you have a hankering for one. . .peanut butter (smooth or crunchy--if it's not crunchy, it WILL be), a slice of bread, a handful of "cheezies." Spread pb on bread, fold in half, stick in cheetos wherever you want--just make sure there are lots!
